M…13 Jul 2009It was a lovely experience and well worth visiting. The staff was all very plesant, the lounge and the toilet was very clean and refreshing, the food was well presented, and was excellent. You can tell that the ingredients were very fresh. I'd like to visit for dinner next time!
Paul…15 Feb 2009Have been several times, and recently went for lunch - they have 2 lunch menus now - both very good value. Service always very good, food is excellent. Only gripe is that the wine prices are just too high. Will be back.
Bern…12 Feb 2009I hope it not too unfair to review Midsummer House over a year on - But sadly seeing it on Local Secrets brought back too many bad memories, and unaccustomed as I am to public duty, I feel compelled to recount my experience. Top restaurants to my mind aim to offer excellent service and memorable food, for which the customer empties their wallet and still feels happy by the experience. Sadly all I remember about Midsummer House is the airport lounge atmosphere, (alas, not even business class) and good but not top rate food. Food was nicely prepared, well presented, good quality ingredients, missing the very special attention expected, slightly dry on both mains, scoring 7/10 priced at 10/10. There was a feel of the menu and Chef playing unwanted games, and of their watching Masterchef too often. Hints of Heston prevailed, missing the new and seeming pretentious and again brought to the table without the skill of execution that should have been employed at the price. Surly and sadly aloof waiter scuttling my partner and I to unnecessarily poorly placed table in a cold room with an echo to practice yodels in. Matters were not improved by over attention followed by lack of interest. Schizophrenic staffing not being advertised as a replacement for an amuse-bouche I kid you not, the hoover was heard roaring at one point as the empty restaurant gave up the ghost on any pretense of clinging to the illusion of fine dining. ........... I do hope the restaurant is better now than I describe. I must admit for £220 Im not in the mood to take a punt. Perhaps others can put me straight here so I can return again and enjoy a top meal in an area where low mid range is the staple fare.
