Fitzwilliam's Hidden Depths

"Curatorial genius" was the potent description with which the Telegraph critic Richard Dorment branded the Fitzwilliam's groundbreaking summer exhibition "Endless Forms: Charles Darwin, Natural Science and the Visual Arts". The exhibition explored the impact Darwin's theories had on artists of the late nineteenth century, and was marked by its imaginative leaps of thought, tracing Darwin's influence on a vast swathe of artists working in all types of media.

One of the two curators of "Endless Forms", Jane Munro, is about to present another exhibition, one with a very different remit. "Hidden Depths: Sargent, Sickert, Spencer" is created solely with work held by the Fitzwilliam Museum, to explore the themes, styles and lives of these three artists, whose lives spanned the century between the 1850s and the 1950s, and how they relate to each other.
