and you'll see what I mean), soft lighting and fantastic changing-colour table lamps, all make for an intimate and relaxed environment to dine in, making Lalbagh a perfect place for taking your loved one for an evening out, making an impression on someone special, or just hanging out with your friends and family.

The menu offers an extensive range to choose from, with a number of dishes from various regions, all very well described and offering excellent value for money, as you see the ingredients in each dish. The staff are always on hand to advise you on tastes and the wine list, and are happy to accommodate your personal requirements for level of heat. As I'm always up for trying something new, the waiters helped me choose, and we finished up with an amazing selection of starter, main and pudding with a delicious red wine. All the usual Indian beers were on offer, and I opted for a pint of the new Mongoose.

The food was amazing: a wonderful array of flavours, tender meats and delicious vegetables, all bursting with the warm spices and flavours of the East. And all measured with a citrus tang to take the edge off (if you need it) and add a little zest to the dish. The dishes were wonderfully presented in perfect portions - even for the most ravenous of curry lovers such as me!

As a crescendo to our Eastern experience we ordered citrus sorbets (my wife's came in a cute little pottery jar), and this was the perfect end to a fantastic meal. From the wonderfully attentive and helpful staff, to the delightful table lamps...this MUST be Cambridgeshire's little hidden secret of a curry house, and people should definitely come and visit!

The Lalbagh Indian restaurant is found in the village of Bourn and has ample free parking. There is room for up to 60 guests, lunchtime and evening menus, and also a take-away service (just what you need for those lazy days or nights in). Due to its award winning authentic and modern dishes, though, it can be quite busy on weekends, so booking early is advised. Should you wish, the restaurant can be booked for private occasions for up to 30 people.
