Since it was opened in 1998 by Kevin Roos, the Vaults has established itself as the leading independent bar and restaurant in Cambridge, expanding during that time from 40 to 120 seats through refurbishment and expansion.
The tardis nature of the premises means that from outside you get little indication of the joys within. The sophisticated decor and lighting, modern and intimate bar and striking works of art make the Vaults a visual feast.
The whole experience from then on demonstrates that when the owners of a restaurant run it, you are assured of a unique experience, with loving care at the top of the agenda rather than shareholder profits. At the core of this experience is a meticulously researched and presented menu, with produce being bought from local farms and suppliers and many of the recipes being local in origin. 
This applies not only to their wonderful main course selection, but also to the famous sharing menu - a popular feature of the Vaults since it's foundation.
The experience of eating from the sharing menu means that the process of eating is not merely a physical function, but a part of the social chemistry of the evening.
With the unobstrusive, relaxed service, it means that for some reason couples, small groups and parties just seem to have a better time here than almost anywhere else.
*The venue was originally known as the Vaults, but was named The Depot in 2007. It was returned to its original name, The Vaults in September 2008.
