What is localsecrets?
localsecrets is an idea that has evolved over a lifetime and has been reinvented through the internet.
The idea began as an ambition that our CEO dates to somewhere in the late 1960s when he got the journalism bug. It grew out of dreams and ambitions of what he loved to do most: writing things that engaged people, that woke them up and gave insights and entertainment in the very reading.
That ambition led him around the world as a foreign correspondent and teacher, who eventually wound up in Cambridge, where in the 1990s he got the opportunity to do what he had always wanted to do: create and launch his own city magazine as a place for the community to think and talk and have fun. Called the Cambridge Insider, it came out twice a month had a great reception .
Soon after the millennium, when the paper world began to change more quickly into one dominated by internet, bits and pieces of guides that he had published -- living, shopping and restaurant guides – came together online in the new website, conforming over time to the shape of the internet, where the potentials of email, social media, and most recently the mobile phone, added dimensions.
And localsecrets became, as the company grew, much more of a team effort, benefiting from the experience and drive of its business and editorial staff, supported by our customers and given a voice by scores of freelancers and members who contribute articles, recommendations, images, listings and comment. All this is supplemented by the introduction of suppliers of comprehensive listings of every king of shop, store and eatery in the UK, along with the best and most up-to-date events listings available in the country and lots more.
We hope that the content pleases you – and invite you to help us build localsecrets by adding content and making it more of a place you enjoy visiting.
