Situated down Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds you might be forgiven for overlooking the independent restaurant, The Grid, given that the 'chain' restaurants dominate it in this part of town. However, if you enjoy food and appreciate a relaxing environment, this is one establishment you just simply have to try.

reputation of being one of Bury's finest independent restaurants.
Walking in on a cold winters evening we are greeted with a friendly welcome and immediately feel at home in this relaxed, yet modern, décor. The historical features of the building (old beams, creaky floorboards) have been retained and they add to the ambience of the restaurant superbly.
Our waiter presented us with warm ciabatta bread and olives (at no charge) whilst we pondered the menu - a nice touch and emphasised the Grid's credentials as a quality establishment.
Looking at the eclectic menu, it's hard to pinpoint a region or even style of cuisine the Grid caters for, such is the broad range in food - international is the best term for it. With such a varied menu incorporating duck, steak, lamb, chicken, venison and pork all present on the menu, you get the feeling this chef likes visiting the butcher (and that's not mentioning the numerous fish and vegetarian options available).
Having debated the merits of each dish, and spotting the lamb burger on a fellow diners table, we know that the homemade lamb burger was going to be a good choice. It proved to be a great decision; the lamb was delicately flavoured with mint and herbs in a fusion that worked very well with salad and chunky chips that accompanied the dish. The Thai Green Chicken curry was equally well cooked and spiced.
Eyeing up the baked vanilla cheesecake with toffee cream, we just couldn't resist. The cheesecake was light and delicate with a nice baked top, and the cream was beautiful - soft and full of flavour, proper toffee too, not the substitute toffee flavouring you some times receive.
Overall, the food was good value for money, the ambience of the restaurant perfect and friendliness of staff makes it a great dining experience. We certainly had no complaints here save the murmuring of our full stomachs as we left this exquisite restaurant, safe in the knowledge that we'd see it again in the future.
