You can have a takeaway coffee, tea or cakes, purchase a variety of luxury foodstuffs in the shop or take the time to indulge yourself in the tearoom itself.

Needless to say we sat down and surrendered ourselves to the grand, yet informal, setting. A traditional British summer prevented us from sitting outside, but having being seated by period styled waitresses, we decided this was an experience we probably wouldn't forget. Alongside the traditional coffees and soft drinks are a huge variety of teas, with the afternoon and cream tea featuring prominently. If anyone from outside the UK pictured a quintessentially English tearoom, they would probably have Harriets in mind. It offers a truly English experience and is very popular.

On a busy Saturday lunchtime, we struggled to find an empty seat, but were served quickly by the smartly dressed staff. Settling down for a lunchtime treat, we browsed the menu and decided on a nice cup of tea to start. Then after savouring the relaxed atmosphere we decided on a couple of lunches that wetted the appetite. A toasted chicken sandwich in BBQ sauce with a side order of their home-made chips tasted succulent and was well prepared. While our ham and pineapple ciabatta came topped with mozzarella and a nice fresh salad on the side. This was all good food, it arrived promptly and it satisfied us.

Although the prices are on the higher end of the scale for a café or tearoom, Harriets is probably worth the extra cash for the quality food received and the pleasant atmosphere. It's a place that's best left for treats, an ideal place to meet with family and friends - and of course - is the perfect place to enjoy an English afternoon tea.
