| We were totally overwhelmed with the choice on the menu at The Victoria. The varied selection of tempting dishes made the mouth water just from reading the menu; steak medallions in a red wine definitely a "local secret" and well worth a visit sauce, pork cooked with apples and cider, home made lasagne... We went for the steak medallions and were not disappointed. 'Melt in the mouth' is the best way to describe the delicious meal with the rich sauce a treat to the taste buds and the mixture of accompanying potatoes and vegetables were also cooked to perfection and very well presented.
Situated on Ouse Walk (next to the fire station) in Huntingdon, the Victoria Inn is totally hidden away. We had to navigate a few tight back streets to find an oval green surrounded by houses where the Victoria Inn stood. The building had a welcoming olde worlde pub feel with a beer garden at the rear. In 2005 it underwent a ten-month refurbishment which is obvious as everything gleams new and clean as you walk into the traditional style pub. We were greeted by a very friendly face behind the bar who showed us to a separate dinning room. Service was exceptional shown through the one waitress/bar person's great patience with us while we spent a long indecisive time studying the menu.
For starters we shared a seafood platter which was tasty, though slightly slow to arrive and a little expensive. While we enjoyed our steak medallion Sunday roasts were being served around us. For dessert, we had a selection impeccably presented ice cream. Individual strawberry pavlovas and lemon roulades seemed popular with the other diners. The restaurant had a substantial list of wines from around the world.
Due to the hidden away location we were told that The Victoria Inn doesn't generally get very busy, definitely a "local secret" and well worth a visit.
