Inside the pub is a pleasant spot in winter too, with comfortable couches, amazing three-sided views and post-colonial décor (pillars, ceiling fans and a veranda). The Greene King pub serves the standard range of lagers, three real ales and, unusually, bottles of the Australian favourite, Victoria Bitter ("VB").

The menu is standard pub grub: steak, beef and ale pie, fish and chips, plus sandwiches and jacket potatoes. When the kitchen isn't serving the main menu, pizzas can satisfy any hunger pangs. These are available for take away until the pub closes so can satisfy late night munchies. We went for a good old fish and chips which arrived on a large plate with peas and tartar sauce. The meal, provided in a generous portion was not exceptional but perfectly acceptable.

For location alone, especially in the summer months when the area is busy with tourists and locals taking advantage of the nice weather for a relaxing day on the river, The Granta is recommended. The drinks and food don't go beyond average but with a better than average view, punters are still happy.
