| 'Three generations of the same family have been involved in the running of this 500-year-old freehouse; the current boss, David Short, has been at the helm for 34 years. He carries on traditions of decades. One is the legendary Queen's Head's soup; it evolves daily from a jealously guarded recipe, we are told. It is often herby, meaty,full of with vegetables and great flavours. The ambience is similarly charming: The lounge bar has a magnificent fireplace with a deer's head above and traditional oak beam, while the public bar has old settles, a stove, the stuffed goose that once lived in the car park and loads of satirical Victorian-era 'Punch' prints. A small games room features skittles, darts and shove ha'penny. It is possible to sit outside -- there is no garden as such. In the summer many the customers cross the road to bask under the shade of a large tree. (Watch out when leaving pub: The road is literally a yard away from the door). With all this to offer the Queen's Head is popular among locals and visitors from far and wide.
