to a round table -- just right for socializing, we enjoyed repast of vegetable wraps, vegetarian chilli and a little egg-roll type appetizer called Chipotle Flautas, with sides of red potato mash, chips and nice crisp corn chips. It all came about 10 minutes after we ordered, looking nice and served by a smilely and polite waitress in Chiquito uniform.

This is tasty food with lots of choice, and, as we found, generally nothing too strange or hot (although we were genuinely taken by the Mexican wine, which tastes more like a Port and has a its own special flavour). You can also get 8 or so grilled meats, and their 'famous' sizzling Fajitos, which presumably come 'sizzling'. (No one ordered one during our visit so we can't vouch for that!). They do a few fish dishes and lots of sharing things. The selection includes Quesadillas, Nachos, Mexican Paella and sandwiches.

As to the music, it definitely grows on you, as do the Mexican decorations (hats, vases, black and white pictures, seats done up in Mexican-style textiles). By the time we were leaving, having tried the rich and sweet Banana Taquito -- a banana wrapped in cinnamon tortilla and deep fried -- the sounds had won us over. We were swaying and almost ready to get up and dance!

Chiquito brings a new take on Mexican food to Cambridge and welcome variety. The restaurant belongs to the same UK group as Franky and Benny's next door, and appeals on good service, price and nice atmosphere. It may not be 100% like you get it in Mexico, but it does pretty well and sets a high standard.
